DR. NAUMAN A. CHAUDHRY

 

New England Retina Associates, Peter E, Liggett, MD and David Tom, MD are pleased to announce that Nauman A. Chaudhry, MD has been elected by his retina peers for the candidacy of Club Jules Gonin, an international invitation-only retina club. He is also an active member of the invitation-only Retina Society and The Macula Society. He is the youngest and only the second retina surgeon in Connecticut to be elected to all three prestigious societies.

 

Nauman A. Chaudhry, M.D. is a vitreoretinal surgeon who completed his Ophthalmology residency at the Yale Eye Center in New Haven where he also served as chief resident. He was awarded the Marvin Sears Award for Excellence in Clinical Ophthalmology given to Yale’s best Ophthalmology resident. He was given this award when he was only a second year resident, a first in the history of the award. This was followed by another chief residency at the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute, University of Miami, where he also finished his medical and surgical retina fellowship. Bascom Palmer has been consistently named the best eye hospital in the United States by U.S. News & World Report.

Dr. Chaudhry received his medical degree from the Aga Khan University in Pakistan with honor awards in multiple disciplines, including ophthalmology. He was awarded a scholarship for pursuing medical education in North America by the Aga Khan Medical Foundation, Canada. He also had the distinguished honor of being in the top one percentile for both parts of the United States Medical Licensing Exam (USMLE). This written exam is taken by thousands of American and international medical doctors every year before starting residency training.

Dr. Chaudhry is Assistant Clinical Professor of Ophthalmology at the Yale School of Medicine. He is board certified in ophthalmology and is member of American Academy of Ophthalmology and American Society of Retina Specialists. He serves as examiner for the American Board of Ophthalmology and is scientific reviewer for Archives of Ophthalmology.

Dr. Chaudhry has authored more than 80 papers and abstracts in peer-reviewed ophthalmology literature. His research has included topics in retinal detachment, diabetic retinopathy, age-related macular degeneration, macular holes, ocular trauma, endophthalmitis and ocular inflammation. He is currently principal investigator in several pioneering national clinical trials for the treatment of age-related macular degeneration, vein occlusions and diabetic macular edema.

Dr. Chaudhry is accepting new patients in our Guilford, New London and Norwich offices.
