Low-Vision Support
We are aware of the challenges that our patients who have had
vision loss encounter. Finding the resourses available to help can be difficult.
We are very familiar with the low vision resource organizations.
We also are familiar with many of the new low vision tools. By calling
Debbie Donofrio at our office, she will arrange to put you, or a
family member, or friend in touch with these organizations that
do outstanding work.
Patients experiencing severe vision loss due to injury or illness
are invited join our Vision Loss Support Group. The group meets
the first Wednesday of each month at 6:30 pm in an informal setting.
For people feeling isolated or frightened, this is an opportunity
to talk to others in similar situations. Under the direction of
a trained counselor, participants share information and experiences
related to vision loss and discuss various coping techniques. These
meetings are made possible by the New England Retina Research and
Education Fund and are free of charge.
Meetings are held in the Hamden, New London and Westport areas. The locations are:
In Hamden: The Larson, an assisted living retirement community at 1450 Whitney Avenue, Hamden, just down the street from our Hamden office.
In the New London area: The Crossroads, an assisted living retirement community at 1 Beechwood Drive, just off Rt. 95 in Waterford.
In Westport: At our office at 162 Kings Highway, Westport, CT.
Parking is readily available at all locations and refreshments will be provided. The receptionist will direct you at the front desk. If you would like to attend any of these meetings, but transportation's is stopping you, please let us know.
If you would like more information about the groups or the upcoming topics, please call our Westport office at (203) 221-7661 or our toll free telephone number 1-888-626-2202 and ask for Debbie Donofrio.
